Berwick-upon-Tweed

A lucky escape for the canopy of Berwick station as D9000 Royal Scots Grey emits smoke and flames after being brought to a halt with The Deltic Deliverance railtour on 30 November 1996 see image 29337 . The locomotive was uncoupled and moved clear following which the local fire brigade attended. The fire, caused by burning oily deposits in the exhaust system, was eventually extinguished and 37702 subsequently arrived to haul the tour to Newcastle with D9000 DIT.
