The area around the Water of Leith at Bonnington was once packed with industries like tanneries and foundries and was presumably not a pleasant place to be. Linking all those works with the outside world was a substantial network of sidings fanning out from The NB North Leith branch. Here is the only remnant I know of: crossing Anderson Place to the former VAT69 bond (now inevitably flats) in July 2010. It has surely only survived because removing it would mean lifting and relaying cobbles.
