Little Benton North Signal Box

With more than a hint of fog hanging over the East Coast Main Line, A3 Pacific no 60070 Gladiateur takes a train north on the approach to Benton Quarry Junction in the summer of 1963. The splitting distant signals for the junction can be seen above the locomotive. The train, the 8.35am Scarborough - Glasgow Queen Street, is passing the former Little Benton sidings (left), with Little Benton North signal box on the right (the South box was located on the nearside of the bridge in the background). Little Benton sidings and its associated signal boxes had gone prior to the end of steam.
