Another of the Welsh rugby excursions leaves Hawick on Sunday morning 7 February 1965. The heavily loaded 1X41 10.40am Edinburgh - Merthyr return special had stopped at Hawick station where Britannia Pacific no 70038 Robin Hood was provided with support in the form of Hawick shed's standard class 4 2-6-4T no 80113, primarily to assist on the climb to Whitrope. As can be seen here, the assistant set about the task with a vengeance, the rest of the train being totally obliterated on the restart south out of Hawick station.
