A pair of Baby Deltics, as the ten EE Type 2 Class 23 locos were dubbed, standing withdrawn at Stratford Depot in 1971. These examples are D5905, in green, and D5909, the only one to receive blue livery. From here they were taken away for scrapping, which then left only D5901 in existence at the Research Centre, Derby. When D5901 was later scrapped the class became extinct but the Baby Deltic Project is constructing a replica using a Class 37 as donor locomotive.
