It would be an odd crow which flew from Glasgow to North Berwick via
Carstairs, but it's necessary to get Class 322 electrics from Shields Depot to the North Berwick branch. These twice-a-day workings (and two returns) keep the five units serviced in turn and provide Carstairs with some of its few services. Whether they'll survive when the more direct Airdrie-Bathgate route opens in December I don't know. This train, on 16 October was affected by engineering works and left 9 minutes earlier than scheduled and travelled to Motherwell via Queen's Park instead of the WCML. This means that it used the connection at Newton East Junction which has no scheduled passenger service. This made at least one passenger's day.
