We are used to looking at old maps and lamenting the railways that have gone, but if you don't go quite so far back it's a different story. This is an extract from the BR Network Map 1978 showing East Central Scotland. It looks rather bare compared with today's diagram. I make it 12 stations opened in the area of this extract in the last 32 years including those on the reopened Bathgate branch and a completed Fife Circle. Note also the business with the green line at Carstairs which reflects the service of the time. See too the map of the temporarily closed Glasgow Subway. Ibrox station is shown under its pre-reopening name of Copland Road, but the three other affected stations show their new names.
