Argyle Street station opened along with the Argyle Line (a re-opening of the core section of the old Glasgow Central Railway) in 1979. It was a new build on an open site, so shops could be constructed over it. This was presumably deemed a more commercial option than reopening old Glasgow Cross station somewhat further east and also underground, despite the extra construction costs. It's rather close to Glasgow Central Low Level; in fact you can see your train at the platform of the other station. However even without Central's connections Argyle Street can still get very busy, especially with Saturday shoppers. The exterior in Argyle Street itself photographed on 16 October.
