Hump shunting taing place at Perth New Yard on 25th March 1963, not long after this product of BR's 1955 Modernisation Plan had opened for business. Like many aspects of the latter, it was soon overtaken by events - in this case not just the general loss of wagonload business to the road haulage industry, but also specifically the closure of the Strathmore Line through Forfar in 1967, which meant that (other than the surviving freight stub to Forfar) the only freight traffic passing the New Yard was for Inverness.
