This extract from the OS One Inch map of 1955 for the Kirkcudbright area is almost railway-free. Bear with me, the point is to demonstrate the distance between Gatehouse of Fleet station and the village. There are six-and-a-half twisty miles between the station and Fleet Street, Gatehouse - a British record? The link with the station was enough to give this road a classification which it retains to this day, though even B roads are supposed to go somewhere. Crown copyright 1955.
