This is part of a Johnston & Bacon map of 1955 called 'Forth & Tay' and it's at a scale to 2 miles to the inch. The seeming lack of detail is down to the fact that it was an educational wall map (pay attention at the back) and has wooden dowels top and bottom. The railways open to passengers at the time are all faithfully recorded, though the Inchture (horse) Tramway is shown despite having closed 39 years earlier! Burghs are shown in prominent typeface regardless of size, hence Auchtermuchty's appearance as a comparative metropolis. Johnston and Bacon Maps
