The Johnstone area as seen on this extract of the OS Scottish Popular Edition map of 1925. Linwood was to become home to a Rootes car plant. Elderslie, reputed birthplace of William Wallace, was where the Paisley Canal branch came in and went out again to Kilmacolm. Johnstone North, on the Kilbarchan line closed in 1955.
