Platform scene at Shankend on 28 December 1968, with little more than a week to go before the last scheduled operations over the Waverley route. The train is the 9.30am Edinburgh - Carlisle (carrying through coaches for St Pancras) and the locomotive in charge is Brush Type 4 no 1536. [The same train was photographed by Kenneth Gray less than 20 minutes earlier as it entered Hawick station, some 7 miles to the north.] see image 32092.
