Replica/rebuilt narrow gauge wagon outside the Tan Hill Inn on the Pennine Way near the Cumbria/Durham/North Yorkshire boundaries. Presumably similar vehicles were used in the nearby stone quarries at this bleak spot (but if anyone has any more definite information please share). The nearest station to Tan Hill would have been Barras on the Stainmore line see image 21928 but the road continues to climb the moors for a further five miles from Barras before reaching this windswept location. With thanks to Messrs Martin, Armit and Taylor. Editors note: Some may recall the Tan Hill Inn making the headlines on 31 December 2009 when revellers celebrating the New Year found the surrounding roads blocked by snow and were unable to leave the pub for 3 days ... somebody pinch me!
