A long Class 37-hauled timber train heads east from Elgin in 1995. Following the demise of the Speedlink network in 1991, and the ill-fated Elgin/Keith-Coatbridge container service from 1991 to 1992, timber from Inverness to the Shotton paper mill was for several years the only regular freight traffic in this part of the world. By 2009 only occasional freight specials were serving the Inverness-Aberdeen corridor.
