This may look like a forgotten main line, but the long abutments merely signify that the sidings for Ansley Hall colliery crossed the road here. The branch started at Stockingford, on the MR Birmingham-Nuneaton line (right of picture), but the sole access to the colliery was by shunting back from the end of the line (left). This odd layout prompted speculation that the true aim of this branch was Baddesley Ensor, 2 miles West of here - which would have made it the only colliery I know served by THREE branch lines.
