Clachnaharry

A Class 40 eases the regular Muir of Ord to Doncaster empty grain train across the Caledonian Canal at Clachnaharry in the 1970s. This was one of the first dedicated trainload (as opposed to mixed freight) workings in the Highlands - beginning in the mid-1960s - with barley from the East of England aggregated into a full train at Doncaster, working up the ECML to Aberdeen. North of Aberdeen, the alternate destinations were the Burghead maltings private siding and a rail-connected silo at Muir of Ord feeding the maltings on the edge of the village. See image 24214
