Newton Stewart

A Black 5 with a Stranraer-bound train pauses at Newton Stewart in April 1965, approximately 2 months before closure. The station was formerly the junction for the Whithorn branch, which had closed completely the previous year. Latterly, Newton Stewart was served by just four trains a day in each direction, including 'The Northern Irishman' sleeper/boat train operating between London Euston and Stranraer Harbour.
