But for the Midland and LNWR falling out, the Clapham to Lowgill railway would have been the main line to Scotland from West Yorkshire. It was certainly built like a main line as three great surviving bridges at Ingleton, Lowgill and Sedbergh testify. This is the Sedbergh bridge, in cast iron and brick, striding across the Lune Valley.
