Located on the branch that once served Allhallows-on-Sea and Port Victoria on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent, the station at Grain Crossing Halt, which stood just beyond the gates, lost its passenger service in 1951. At that time a new station was opened further east to cater for the increasing volume of oil industry-related traffic. The replacement station itself closed to passengers after only 10 years. The line is now freight only from Hoo Junction to Grain and Thamesport. The signal box, dating from 1882, still survives, although the gates were replaced by metal versions in the 1990s. Crossing manoeuvres are controlled by shunting staff from the nearby refinery.
