The Dundee & Perth Railway undertook in 1849 to build two branch lines from its main route to villages bypassed, one to Inchture Village and the other to Inchmichael. The former carried passengers and goods until the end of 1916 while the latter, though largely completed, was abandoned without carrying any traffic. This northward view in 2012 shows the stone-lined cutting half way along the route from Errol.
