Lochailort

Beyond Fort William, the Mallaig Extension Railway is known for its steep gradients and tight curvature as well as impressive scenery. All three are illustrated in this photograph taken on 11 July 2012, which shows Black 5 No 45407 climbing the tightly curved 1 in 50 gradient out of Lochailort with 'The Jacobite' steam service to Mallaig. Loch Ailort dominates the background.
