The station at Braye Road on the Alderney Railway in the Channel Islands, photographed in the summer of 1981. Built by the British government to carry stone from the east end of the island in order to construct the breakwater and various fortifications, the railway was officially opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1847. The couple later travelled along the 2 mile route in a horse drawn tender. Traffic using the line today includes 0-4-0 diesel locomotives hauling ex-LU 1959 tube stock.
