Chorlton-cum-Hardy station closed in 1967 but freight continued to pass through until as late as 1988. After full closure the trackbed was preserved allowing reopening to tram services in July 2011. Metrolink 3016 calls at the new Chorlton tram stop, on the site of the old railway station, on its way to Oldham Mumps.
