Hawthorn Dene Viaduct on the Durham Coast, between Seaham Harbour and Easington Colliery. The beach is recovering after years of despoilation, from colliery waste tipped into the sea by the large Aerial Flights of the East Durham coastal pits (Vane Tempest, Seaham, Dawdon, Easington, Horden, Blackhall...). The tipping operation was demonstrated here in the final minutes of 'Get Carter' (1971). See image 30874. View south, some 15 years after mining ceased.
