Torwoodlee North Viaduct

The gorge of the Gala Water at Torwoodlee just north of Galashiels. The river sweeps west and then back east, necessitating two railway bridges and a short tunnel on the route opened in 1849. This view south on 15th November 2012 shows the remaining piers of the most northerly bridge, with the tunnel mouth in the middle distance. Bridge reconstruction will be required, although at this point it will be single track.
