Thorpes Bridge Junction was the point where two lines from Manchester Victoria (via Miles Platting and Cheetham Hill) met and also where the Rochdale and Oldham lines divided. Oldham Metrolink trams use the Cheetham Hill trackbed from Smedley Viaduct Jcn but at Thorpes Bridge Jcn a new bridge carries them over the Manchester Rochdale railway lines. 3013 negotiates the bridge approach as it descends towards the new tram station known as Central Park. Newton Heath TMD is on the other side of the bridge.
