Darlington Locomotive Works
A further shot of J21 0-6-0 no 65099 with D2053 in the works reception sidings at Darlington shed in late 1961 see image 41693. The lengthy period between the J21's withdrawal from Tyne Dock in October 1961 and cutting up at Darlington in February 1966 was due to the locomotive having been initially earmarked for preservation. Unfortunately further examination within the works led to a rethink and the J21 example finally chosen for preservation was 65033.
