The 11 mile freight-only Rosedale Branch, opened in 1861, ran from Battersby Junction across the heights of the North York Moors to reach iron ore deposits in the Rosedale valley. Part of the trackbed in the vicinity of the kilns is seen here in October 2013, some 84 years after the line closed.
