When the railway returns to the Borders it will be throttled down to a single track through Galashiels, with no prospect of the situation ever being improved. One of the constraints is the new Station Brae Bridge but until recently the 1930s Blyth & Blyth designed bridge was able to accommodate as many tracks as one could wish for. This is a March 2005 view from near the north-east corner looking towards the town centre (the Church of Our Lady and St. Andrew is immediately behind).
