A sorry looking 27043 at Eastfield in June 1981. The locomotive (originally BRCW D5414) had been withdrawn in April 1980 following fire damage and was subsequently used for re-railing practice at the depot until disposal in November 1985. Disposal itself was unusual in that, after it was decided against conventional cutting up due to the presence of asbestos, the locomotive was eventually buried at Paterson's Tip, the large landfill site at Mount Vernon.
