Tehachapi Loop
A very long container freight, with three locomotives at the head-end, on the Tehachapi Loop spiral in April 2014. Built by the Southern Pacific, the 19th century spiral is 0.73 miles of continious 2% grade. Situated in the Tehachapi Pass in the California high desert, the arrangement enabled trains to ascend the pass between Mojave and Bakersfield.
