How observant are you? You could easily drive past this bungalow without noticing it, or the entrance on the opposite side of the road. You would not realize that it was an 1848-built crossing keepers cottage on Lord Harboroughs curve, built to avoid Stapleford Park. The crossing and curve were replaced by a new alignment and station in 1880, when a junction for the new line to Bourne was added. By this time, the eponymous Lord had passed away; his estate had been bought by the more railway-minded Lord Gretton of Burton, whose descendants still live there - and built the Stapleford Miniature Railway see image 47822.
