High Wycombe

The twin track standard gauge Hughenden viaduct strides confidently over a complex traffic island in High Wycombe. The puzzle is, why does the retaining wall for the former single track broad gauge viaduct alongside look so recent? The answer is that it was built at the same time as the traffic system - about 30 years ago. This modernization swept away a number of railway arch business premises; and also, according to a lifelong resident, a rather dodgy pub.
