Looking east over the site of the first Stepps station in 1988, the second station was to open a year later at the distant road bridge. The first station, originally called Steps Road, is thought to have opened around 1842, renamed Stepps in 1924 and closed in 1962. A large carriage shed, and later just carriage sidings, existed to the left of the line here and the Comedie Branch, serving the Garthamlock Colliery, ran off to the right. [Ref query 44541]
