Looking east over Liffey Junction from a Sligo train in 1993. To the right is the former main line to the Midland Great Western Railway's Broadstone terminus, closed to passengers in 1937. The sidings were used for cattle traffic until 1977. Rails are returning in the shape of the Luas tram Cross City Line which will use the Broadstone trackbed and run alongside the railway to a joint station at Broombridge. This is due to open in 2017.
