South Esk

Part of the alignment to the north of Dalhouse of the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway viewed from the trackbed of the Edinburgh and Hawick line in 2002. The line was extended south by the Arniston Branch of the Marquis of Lothian's Waggonway to Newbyres Colliery down the east side of today's A7. The Edinburgh and Hawick took an entirely new alignment south over the Newbattle Viaduct to Arniston running to the west of the A7.
