Forth Road Bridge

Detail from a bronze infomation plaque at the south end of the FRB dating from opening in 1964 and showing a map of the surrounding area. The Fordell Wagonway is shown, though it had been disused since 1946. Also shown is the East Ness Jetty branch from Donibristle which was used to transport seaplanes from RNAS Donibristle 'Donibee' to the Forth. I didn't know it had a loop, but then it was a bit secret so I don't know much about it! The roads are interesting too, with the infant M90 coming to a sudden end at Pitreavie and the projected East Fife Regional Road, not to open for another 28 years and further north as the A92. The projected West Fife road is also shown (off picture) but that didn't open at all, leaving the rather overblown A823(M) as no more than a long slip road.
