An eastbound route 2 Avenio type tram stops at the substantial underground Spui tram station in the centre of the Hague.
In 2004, existing tram routes were relocated from street level into the 'tramtunnel' after many years of construction. The difficulties of construction are still spoken of, notably flooding, and the tunnel enjoyed various dubious names such as the 'Tramtanic'. Spui ('Lock') had been a harbour and meeting point of several canals.
This is a very impressive and pleasant station to use.
