A Class 25 shunts the Coal Concentration Depot at Southport in February 1980 See image 45006. Above the loco the old steam depot, by now Steamport Southport can be seen and to the right of that the old Southport Central station, former terminus of the West Lancashire Railway from Preston. This had only been open to passengers for nineteen years closing in 1901 but continued as Kensington Road Goods until 1973. The life and times of Southport Central is comprehensively covered on the excellent Disused Stations website. It was finally demolished soon after this photo was taken.
