A general view of the reconstructed railways at Killhope Mine high in the Upper Weardale hills. In the left foreground is what might be called a 'beamway' with flat iron-covered wooden rails supported on beams. Running on this are waggons with flanged wheels. Below, running off into the distance, is a more conventional narrow gauge edge railway with smaller waggons. At that time the museum was relatively undeveloped compared to the present award-winning multi-themed attraction.
