Danby

The Esk Valley line to Whitby crosses the River Esk and the local road to Lealholm in rapid succession a short distance after leaving Danby Station heading east. This view looking south shows the substantial steel bridge running across the upper reaches of the River Esk, with the road bridge some 25m to the left. The mainly ruined building seen in the distance is Danby Castle, which is a former home of Catherine Parr, the last wife of Henry VIII, in her younger days.
