Hinderwell

A well preserved set of up and over concrete steps, with hand grab posts intact, still sits astride a fence alongside one gate post from a farm crossing between Staithes and Hinderwell, on the former Saltburn to Whitby West Cliff line. Considering the line closed in May 1958, these have survived remarkably untouched in the intervening 59 years. It only needs a replica wooden gate to complete the scene. The rail served Boulby Potash Mine, that sits at the end of the relaid section of line that runs from Crag Hall, Carlin How, by Skinningrove steel works sidings, can be seen, just below the horizon, in the far distance.
