The Castle Eden Trail is based on the NER line from Stockton to Sunderland. It peters out just South of the nicely named Station Town, but we bumped into two vivacious young ladies with a detailed knowledge of local railway geography - this doesn't happen very often. They directed us along this tarmac footpath, which petered out just beyond the line of trees; where by another fortunate coincidence, we found the East-West trackbed of the NER Ferryhill to Hartlepool line. Wingate station was about a mile to the left of the trees. View looks North. [This on approximately the alignment of the Hutton Henry Colliery line -Ed]
