Mealsgate

Mealsgate was on the Bolton Loop of the Maryport and Carlisle Railway but, although a through station, was effectively operated as the terminus of two branches, one from Wigton and the main one from Aspatria. Built to serve several nearby collieries the line closed to passengers in 1930 but goods and coal traffic continued until 1952. This image looks north east from the road overbridge in March 2018, with trees preventing a fuller view. The station is now a private residence. [Ref query 16 April 2018]
