A refurbished Metro-Camm Class 101 pumps out masses of exhaust as it prepares to leave for Aberdeen. These units were given a new livery consisting of white with a broad rail blue stripe.
Note the extent of oil contamination of the ballast; this problem was one aspect of the environmental risk-assessment done prior to the stock market flotation of Railtrack plc twenty years later.
