Tweedbank
The driver of 44871 sitting at Tweedbank is Peter Walker, Operations Manager (North) of West Coast Railways. Back in 2012, when the Campaign for Borders Railway had been campaigning for 10 years for the platform roads at Tweedbank to be extended to accommodate 11-coach charter trains, it was Peter's inspired suggestion which led to a CBR-organised delegation of Borders tourism interests and politicians sampling charter operations on the Settle & Carlisle line. The subsequent political pressure ultimately led to a Ministerial decision to provide lengthened platform roads and platforms at Tweedbank and a lengthened platform at Gala, without which there would have been no prospect of viable charters on the Borders Railway.
