Who says that sleeper trains are on the way out? Not only is there now a year-round daily service here to and from Stockholm (but not Gothenburg) see image 54203 provided by national railway company SJ but there is also a private sector company, Snälltåget, which runs sleeper trains from Storlien from late August to the end of September 2018 to/from Malmö and a high season service from 19th December until April 2019 between Duved and Malmö.
The summer high season sleeper train waits on Track 1 at its terminal station for eastbound departure. Three additional through tracks plus two unelectrified sidings and a maintenance depot make this the biggest station between Östersund Central and Trondheim. Despite this being a single track line these platforms are needed to stable these extra trains in addition to the normal service trains. This should be useful when the area hosts the Alpine World Ski Championships in February 2019.
