During summer 2018 this station was the temporary terminus for long distance trains from southern Sweden, Denmark and Germany. The overground platforms at Stockholm Central were closed meantime to allow bridge repair and strengthening work to be carried out on the two track section 'wasp's waist' across the waterways separating it from Riddarholmen and Södermalm. In the background is an SJ X2000 from Gothenburg while to the right is an SL commuter train. The station is easily able to handle even the longest train with 4 platforms each several hundred metres long. Originally the station was the northern terminus of the Southern Mainline opened in 1860; however it has been rebuilt in the 20th Century and connected to the northern Swedish network.
