I am standing at the site of the box at Crew Junction at Crewe Toll, Edinburgh looking north. Another RailScot contributor asserts that this junction was spelt 'Crew' to distinguish it from the much bigger Crewe 240 miles away. In fact Crew was the confirmed spelling of this location ('2 cottages in middling repair') at the time the railway arrived. The Caledonian could equally have chosen the name [Easter] Drylaw after the farm where it was set.
